Braid Manor
End of the Lockdown Party, June 27 2020

December 2019 China notifies the WHO of a possible new coronavirus, later named covid19. On March 23, 2020 the UK goes into lockdown. We are told to stay at home and to go out only to buy food, for an hour's exercise each day or to go to work but only if you cannot work from home. We are urged to wash our hands thoroughly several times a day and Braid Manor instigates a deep clean programme of banisters, handrails etc. We are also told to observe social distancing (two metres) whenever outside our homes. The wearing of masks in shops and public transport is recommended and later made compulsory. Only essential shops are allowed to remain open. All others (including cafˇs, restaurants, hairdressers etc) have to close down. Towards the end of June parts of the lockdown are lifted hence our party. Further easing starts in July, though certain facilities (eg gyms, swimming pools) remain closed.
